Power BI storage mode mixed

Hello,

I have analysis model tabluar and report connected with direct query.

So then i changed my report to storage mode mixed.

When I added new measures to the tabular model, and try to refresh dataset on power bi, its not added new measures.

So, i need to download the file and click manually refresh to be added a new measures.

Where is the problem? Anybody has same problem?

  • Hi Anonymous  - when using a mixed storage mode in Power BI and not seeing new measures added to the dataset after a refresh is likely due to the way Power BI handles schema updates in mixed mode and DirectQuery.

    • After adding measures in your Tabular model, republish the Power BI report and revalidate the connection in the Power BI Service.
      • Temporarily set the storage mode of affected tables to DirectQuery only, refresh the schema, and then switch back to mixed mode
    • Power BI Service Limitations

      • If you're refreshing the dataset in Power BI Service but new measures are not showing, it could be due to a caching issue in the service or an incomplete refresh.

      Solution:

      • Use the Clear Cache option in Power BI Desktop under Options > Diagnostics > Clear Cache.
      • Re-upload the report to Power BI Service after verifying the measures are visible in Power BI Desktop.
    • Compatibility with Tabular Model

      • Ensure that the measures in your Tabular model are fully deployed and processed before attempting to refresh in Power BI. Any unprocessed or partially deployed changes can cause inconsistencies.

      Solution:

      • Validate the Tabular model deployment and ensure all changes are processed successfully. Use tools like SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) to verify the model's state.

    Hi Anonymous ,

Thanks for the reply from rajendraongole1 .

I understand your problem and I can reproduce the situation. This is not due to the use of mixed mode. When I add a new visual object and a new measure in Power BI Desktop after publishing the report to Power BI Service, the changes are not visible on Power BI Service either.

After you make changes in Power BI Desktop, you need to republish the dataset and report to Power BI Service. if you just save the local file without republishing, the data and report on Power BI Service are not updated.

You can also create a measure directly in Power BI Service. first, open the Workspace Settings in the workspace, set the users to edit the data model, and then open the semantic model and create a new measure.

Anonymous My model is on-prem, on analysis services. Is not on the power bi service.
But storage mode is mixed. I need to republish dataset and report to measure to be visible

        Hi Anonymous ,

        Certainly!

Maybe I did not explain it clearly.

In this case, if you want to add a new measure, you should download the report as a PBIX file, then create the measure in Power BI desktop and republish it so you can get there.

Alternatively you can create the measure directly in the Power BI service.

It is worth noting that reports that have been published to the service cannot be automatically synchronized with on-premise PBIX files, which is why the new measure is not added to the report in the service.
