I am facing a serious usability issue with Power BI slicers.
Once a slicer for a field (for example Dim_Date[Date] or Dim_Date[Month]) has been synced using “Sync slicers”, every newly created slicer using the same field automatically inherits the sync behavior.
This happens even if:
- the slicer is newly created
- sync is turned off
- the slicer is deleted and recreated
- the slicer is placed on a different page
There is no option to create a slicer that is permanently independent from existing synced slicers for the same field.
Field Parameters do not solve this, because they only switch fields and do not provide value-based slicers (dates/months).
The only workarounds seem to be:
- duplicating date/month columns
- creating separate slicer tables
- using disconnected tables with TREATAS
This adds unnecessary complexity for what should be a basic requirement.
Is there any supported way to create a truly independent slicer for an existing field without duplicating columns or tables?
Best,
Jacek

Hi @jaryszek,
No — there is currently NO supported way in Power BI to create a truly independent slicer for the same field once slicer sync has been used.
What you are experiencing is by design, not a bug.
You can duplicate the column and rename it differently and use it as a slicer.

Hi @jaryszek,
Have you had a chance to review the solution we shared by @grazitti_sapna @danextian @Kedar_Pande? If the issue persists, feel free to reply so we can help further.
Thank you.
No built-in option. Create duplicate column in Power Query:
Date Table → Duplicate Column → Rename "Date_Independent"
Use Date_Independent. Fully independent, no sync inheritance.

Hi @jaryszek
You can just copy that synched slicer in the same page. That will not inherit the synch settings.
Having read your post again, you mean a slicer that doesnt filter other slicers? That isn't currently possible unless the visual interaction from that slicer is disabled.

Ok Guys,
so I find woraround for this which means:
use Advaced Options in Sync Slicers tab.
When you will have the different Slicers groups -> they are not connected to each other.
This is the only workaround to fix it besides adding new columns which I do not like.

Thank you. Ah it sucks generally.

Jacek
