Power BI not using custom defined colors when more than 9 objects to color in visual.
- Anonymous9 months ago
Hi jpt1228 ,
Power BI uses all the colors defined in the theme first. After that, if more colors are needed, it auto-generates new ones. These extra colors are system generated and may not look like shades of the colors you defined, which is why you are seeing salmon and mustard type colors.
Currently, there is no setting to restrict Power BI to only the theme colors. To avoid this, you need to add more colors in the theme or reduce the number of categories shown in the visual.
Hope this helps clarify the behavior. Let me know if you need any further help.

If a visual needs more colors than you explicitly define, Power BI will fall back to its default palette for the extra categories. So if your visual can show up to N categories, you must define at least N colors.
I read the documentation and agree that i show it should be. However, The Salmon color, Mustard color in rows 13 and 14 doesn't seem to be any shade of the 9 defined colors.
