Power BI dekstop not responding during start
Hi all,
I just installed PowerBI in my notebook. But when I try to run it, it stop when "..initialization.."
My OS is Windows 7 Professional, CPU 2.2 GHz 64 bit, RAM 8GB, Display resolution is 1366x788.
I've manage to see what is the error message, not complete but it looks like during initialization mode, it search my registry and look for SQL Server installation, SQL server 2016 to be exact. Because it say "...... registry key "SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\130...... The system cannot find the file specified"
Does it need SQL Server 2016 ? Unless I overlooked, the minimum requirement is like this -->
Windows 7 / Windows Server 2008 R2, or later
.NET 4.5
Internet Explorer 10 or later
Memory (RAM): At least 1 GB available, 1.5 GB or more recommended.
Display: At least 1440x900 or 1600x900 (16:9) recommended. Lower resolutions such as 1024x768 or 1280x800 are not recommended, as certain controls (such as closing the startup screen) display beyond those resolutions.
CPU: 1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster x86- or x64-bit processor recommended.
From above the only thing not match is my display resolution only.
Please help. Thanks in advance.
Anton

Hi Anton,
To install Power Desktop, we needn’t to install SQL Server 2016 in the machine previously. In your scenario, have you checked .NET 4.5 and IE browser version on your laptop? And which version of Power BI desktop have you installed?
I would suggest you install the latest power BI desktop version from this site: Microsoft Power BI Desktop. When you first open the Power BI desktop, it will take some minutes to initial mode, please wait for a while.
If you have any question, please feel free to ask.
