Helper IIPower BI and Data Warehouse
Hello,
I am just curious of opinions and best practice. Should Power BI be build on top of a datawarehouse? Currently, we do not have a data warehouse and wonder if we should have one. We have built Dashboard on top of SQL databases. Before we get too far along, I was curious to know if most folks build a DWH before building PBI objects?
bcap01 Most people? No. But that's generally because most of the people using Power BI aren't professional data modelers. In the enterprise space, yes, generally you have a data warehouse and build out Power BI reports and such based upon that single source of truth. If it's available to you, I would highly recommend looking into the new datamarts feature of Power BI. Makes for an intriguing option to build out a data warehouse quickly and completely in the cloud.
