Power BI Slicer Multiple Select Issue (Only for a user)
Hi Everyone,
I have a Power BI report published with the multi-select option enabled. All users have the same read permissions; however, one user’s slicer appears as single select. No matter what I do, it does not change to multi-select.
I have cleared their cache and removed and re-granted permissions, but the issue still persists.
Why is this happening?
Regards,
Hello Rabi
try these
This happens due to user-specific saved state, not your slicer.
Ask the user to click Reset to default in the report (top bar) this fixes it in most cases.
If not then try with
Delete any personal bookmarks
Try Incognito/InPrivate browser
If “Multi-select with CTRL” is on, hold CTRL while selecting

Hi Rabi
This behavior usually isn’t caused by permissions alone—when it happens for only one user it’s typically due to user-specific state (saved filters/bookmarks) or page interactions rather than the slicer setting itself. A few things to check:
RLS / effective filter context
RLS doesn’t “force single select”, but it can leave the user with only one visible/valid value in that slicer. In that case multi-select is technically enabled, but there’s nothing else to select.
Quick validation: confirm whether that user can actually see more than one value in the slicer (or in a table of that column).
Sync slicers across pages
If the slicer is synced to another page where the same field’s slicer has Single select = On, the synced selection/state can effectively keep snapping back to a single value.
Recommendation: temporarily disable sync for that slicer (or ensure all synced instances have consistent settings) and retest.
Persistent filters / personal bookmarks / personalization
Power BI Service can preserve per-user filter state (persistent filters), and users can also have personal bookmarks (or visual personalization, if enabled).
These can make one user always open the report in a “stuck” filtered state.
Ask the user to try:
Reset to default (reset filters)
Open in InPrivate/Incognito (to eliminate stored state)
Check whether they’re using a personal bookmark when opening the report.
Multi-select UX (Ctrl/Cmd requirement)
Depending on slicer style, multi-select may require holding Ctrl (Windows) / Cmd (Mac), unless checkboxes are shown.
Verify the user is using the same device/browser and selection method as others.
Drillthrough / “Drill to” entry path
Drillthrough itself won’t change slicer settings, but entering the page via drillthrough can pre-filter the page so only one slicer value remains selectable—again appearing like single-select.
Test by opening the page directly (not via drillthrough) and/or clearing drillthrough-applied filters.

If the user has a personal bookmark saved with a slicer selection it would keep reopening that bookmark even if you changeg your slicer option.
Have them:
-
Open the report without applying a bookmark
-
Or delete their personal bookmarks and try again
