Power BI Report Builder not responding loading query designer
Good morning,
I have several paginated reports that connect to a Power BI semantic model and I haven't needed to modify them for a while but yesterday I had to add 3 new fields to a dataset but when I click on the query designer it freezes.
I have tried to create a report from scratch and it does the same thing and I have also tried to install the latest update of the application but it still does not respond.

2. Verify Dataset Size and Complexity
- If the dataset is large or complex, the query designer might struggle to load it.
- Test the connection with a smaller or simpler dataset to see if the issue persists.
3. Use DirectQuery Mode (If Possible)
- If the dataset is set to Import mode, it may take longer to load. Try using DirectQuery mode in your dataset for a more responsive experience.
4. Clear Cache
- Power BI Report Builder caches metadata and queries, which can cause issues if the cache becomes corrupted.
- Navigate to the following folder on your system:
%AppData%\Local\Microsoft\Power BI Report Builder\
- Delete the cache files and restart Report Builder.

- Fully uninstall the current version, then reinstall the latest version from the Microsoft Download Center.
6. Test Query Designer in Other Reports
- Open another paginated report connected to the same Power BI semantic model. If the issue occurs with all reports, the problem may lie with the semantic model itself.
7. Update the Power BI Semantic Model
- If the semantic model recently underwent changes, ensure it is published correctly and no errors exist in the dataset.
8. Check System Resources
- Ensure your system has sufficient RAM and CPU resources, as Report Builder can freeze if your machine is under heavy load.
9. Collect Logs for Further Debugging
- Enable tracing to capture logs for troubleshooting:
- Go to Options > Diagnostics in Report Builder.
- Enable logging and reproduce the issue to capture detailed logs.
- Review the logs for any specific error messages or bottlenecks.

After applying point 5 it still didn't work and then I applied point 4 deleting the cache and user data, it asked me for the credentials to connect to the Power BI service and now it's working.
