Power BI: Replace Existing Report Not Working As Expected

Hi Power BI Community!

I have an issue and I wanted to know if there are any types of workarounds.  I currently have 4 reports each have their own dataset - meaning 4 dataset refreshes run daily.  I have consolidated the datasets into 2 datasets and published to Power BI Service.  I then re-created my reports pointing at the consolidated datasets (2 reports point at 1 dataset, and 2 other reports point at the other dataset).

I want to replace my existing reports with the new reports that point to the datasets that are published on Power BI Service.  I have named the new reports exactly the same as the old, however I am not prompted that the existing report will be overwritten.  When looking in the workspace, I noticed I now have two reports with the same exact name.

I want to be able to replace the report so the report link remains the same, etc.  Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks!

Hi @wjkolesar ,

Please check if your Datasets' names are the same. The replace rule is based on the name of dataset.

dataset.PNGdataset2.PNG

I have the same problem, but this solution doesn't work. The datasets are named the same, but they are on two different workspaces. I have existing copies of the reports and dataset on the target workspace, but am still not prompted to replace.

Hi @wjkolesar ,

My recommendation would be to try REST API method Update Report Content In Group

Update an initial report with content of a second one. After this you probably will be able to upload with replace.
