Power BI Publisher

I am trying to connect a dataset from Power BI to Excel utilizing Power BI Publisher. I am drawing an error that says Excel can't access the dataset or report due to non-existant data model (this is inoccrect) or due to permission settings (I own the dataset I am trying to access). Has anyone run into this error before, and how did you resolve?

  • I am trying to connect Excel to a Power BI Data Model utilzing Power BI Publisher but am drawing an error. The data model I am trying to connect to is not a shared dataset, it is housed in my own Power BI Workspace. I have downloaded the OLE DB Driver.

Error Reads: "Can't access dataset or report. Make sure the dataset exists and you have permissions to use it"

Has anyone encountered this error before? Thank you!

    Hi mkpado,

Firstly, please check whether the dataset you were try to connect to hit any limitation:

Connect to Power BI Dataset in Excel

Besides, I noticed that not only you encountered this problem, someone has reported this issue internally, CRI: 56033421

Also, please try the workaround suggested by v-haibl-msft to see whether it works in your scenario.

  • Unfortunatly, the proposed workaround does not work either. I have posted a screenshot of the error when trying to utilize the analyze in Excel feature. After entering my microsoft credentials I receive the following messege, however the Power BI dataset does not populate in Excel.

      Hi mkpado,

I didn't encounter this problem on my side. Not sure whether it is an issue with your Power BI publisher for Excel. Please uninstall it and re-install the latest version for a try.
