Power BI Installation Path?

I have installed power bi desktop from Microsoft store, since I read is better, because it will auto-update, instead of having to manually install every new monthly update.

Now, my problem is that I want to right click+ run as a different user... and I can't do that, after hours of trying this post says that it can't be done Power BI Installation Path : PowerBI (reddit.com)

My question is: how can I run power bi desktop as a different user.. is my only option uninstalling Power BI desktop from Microsoft store and re installing the .exe that is not from microsoft store??

  • Anonymous , In add remove program. Search for Power Bi and Check if there is an option in advance options (You will get once you click on power bi there); to assign to another user.

I have only one user on my machine, so not able to test.

      I didnt find such setting.

SUPER annoying, but... I uninstalled the version from 'microsoft store' and I installed the exe from microsoft site (not the store), and now I can right-click and use a different user... But again, this is not ideal, since now I have to do all the monthly updates manually.

    Hi Anonymous ,

As the official document said, one of the advantages of getting Power BI Desktop from the Microsoft Store is Windows could download the latest version automatically in the background as soon as it's available. It's one of the differences between two ways in getting Power BI Desktop as well.

And according to my test and yours, only installing the exe directly could use "Run as a different user"

So in short, you can not have it both ways.
