Power BI Forecasting in Excel

I've created a forecasting report on Power BI and realized there is no real way to display the forcast data from the graph on Power BI to a table. My solution is to create an excel document that uses the same results found in Power BI for my forecast, this excel document would display tables with the forecast info found in excel but also matching Power BI's results. I would export the data from Power BI but i still want the option to filter through products and such.

Question: Is there a built in excel function which imitates Power BI methodology for finding forecast data? Or an equation you can recommend that i can build into a function?

  • Hi jmckentr,

In Excel, if you have historical time-based data, you can use it to create a forecast. When you create a forecast, Excel creates a new worksheet that contains both a table of the historical and predicted values and a chart that expresses this data. You can refer to this blog: Create a forecast in Excel 2016 for Windows to get detailed steps.

Below articles describe the formula syntax and usage of the FORECAST function in Microsoft Excel.

    FORECAST function

    Forecast and Trend

If you still have any quesion about how to correctly create a forecasting report in Excel, I would suggest you post your questions on more related forum so that you can get more help.

Perhaps my question was misworded. I know how to forecast in excel, is there an excel formula which results in the same forecasting numbers that power bi comes up with. To simplify it, does power bi use the same logic as excel?

I will also go to the excel forum to ask this same question since its divided between the two applications.

        Hi jmckentr,

So, you want to get the same forecast result/values in Excel as that in Power BI, right? It would be better that you can share some sample data and your desired output.
