Power BI Embedded - Dual Storage

Hi PBI Community

We are working with Power BI Embedded.

Our reports are generally DirectQuery to our Azure SQL Database.

As we are sometimes working with large datasets, we are now looking at the Aggregate function (https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/desktop-aggregations)

We create the Agg Table in the desktop and set the Storage Mode to Import. This creates very fast and responsivbe visuals in the desktop and we are happy with the outcome.

The problem is when we want to upload the report to our PBI Embedded environement wihtin our application. It will no longer accept the PBI report file, as it is now Dual Storage mode, and not just DirectQuery.

Has anyone been able to tackle this problem? Is there a way to get around this?

Is this a limitation for PBI Embedded? If so, is anyone aware of when we can allow Dual Storage reports in PBIE?

@landryn ,

You may try composite mode instead and check if this issue persists. For more details about composite mode, please refer to this third-party blog:

Hi

Thank you for yur tip, but it is already in Composite mode.

After some further testing, I have actually discovered that our Power BI Embedded will not even accept a single source file if it is anything other than DirectQuery.

For example, if I create a PBIX file where the data is Import mode and try to upload this, our application will not accept the file.

Is there a setting in the PBI Embedded configuration so that it will only accept DirectQuery files?
