I am another user with the problem to launch Power BI Desktop.
After upgrading to the latest version of the program yesterday, I cannot launch it anymore. Tried to launch it with administrative rights, switched off all antivirus and protection programs, repaired, deleted, reinstalled and tried most of other past suggestions in the forum, no change. I am not getting any error message, just the icon of PBI after a second dissapears from the system tray.
Any reasonable suggestions?
We are having the same issue on one of the team laptops. Installations work fine on all other computers. 32 bit works fine, but does not have the power to chunk through needed reporting. THIS IS CRITICAL.
Not sure what version you are running but all of my issues were with the 64bit. I installed the 32bit version and everything has been working just fine.
When you go to the download page if you select the advanced link it will let you decide which version to download instead of autodetecting what you need.
Dear Herbert,
Thanks for the hint. In Windows Event Viewer in the section Administrative Events, I found following log:
----------------------------------------------
The description for Event ID 25 from source MSOLAP$AnalysisServicesWorkspace2042948428 cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.
If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event.
The following information was included with the event:
msmdsrvi.rll
1051
----------------------------------------------
As I not experienced admin, I have no clue what does it mean. What is meant by the component, do not know.
I remind that I worked with PBI Desktop without a problem untill the installation of the latest version some days ago. I did not make any other SW changes/upgrades on my notebook since. After the first failure to start PBI, I reinstalled it and repaired in the installation wizzard, etc.
Did you get any warning or error message in Event Viewer - Windows Logs – Application / System? You can first clear existing logs before launch the Power BI Desktop.
Best Regards,
Herbert
Dear Herbert,
As I not a Windows admin, I do not know how to clear the log. I did not find the option in Event Viewer. Any suggestion would help.
From my non-professional estimation I see a problem with the start of OLAP services during the launch of PBI.
You can clear the log like following screenshot. And you can also try the suggestion provided by suzdotten.
Best Regards,
Herbert
This isn't helpful but I am having the exact same issue and am struggling to find any answers.
@dox Have you tried it installing on another machine and opening there. I've got latest version of desktop and no problems launching it.
Hi. Yes, we are using PBI Desktop also on other notebooks and there are no problems at the moment, even after the upgrade. In the past, my colleagues had few times the same problem with June´s update, but after some days the program started to work again. It just seemed like the problem dissapeared by itself.
Truly, such instability is not a good attribute of a SW.
