Power BI Desktop error when opening

Where does this error come from, and how can we solve it?

Cannot perform interop call to: desktopDaxQueryViewHost_copilotSettingsHostService.GetAgentMetadataResponse(args:1) - wrong arg[0]=request value {
"agentIds": [
"PuPr_Service_DaxCopilotAgent_202409"
]
}

  • Hi MerelKentalis - The Copilot feature is in Preview, and it might be enabled without proper setup.
    There may be a version mismatch between Power BI Desktop and backend services.A bug in the current Power BI release or registry corruption.

    Navigate to: C:\Users\<YourUser>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Power BI Desktop

    Delete or rename the AnalysisServicesWorkspaces and TempSaves folders.

    uninstall and install the latest version as below link:

    Power BI Desktop | Microsoft Power Platform

    older version available in below link:

    Previous monthly updates to Power BI Desktop and the Power BI service - Power BI | Microsoft Learn

  • The way our IT department sets up our virual desktop including installations might be the reason this is happening. We will test this further. We currently think the issue is related to using different Power BI Desktop versions in our user profile. Deleting the Power BI Desktop folder works, but if this is THE solution to the issue will be something time will tell.

  • Hi  MerelKentalis

    It usually happens when the Copilot feature is enabled but the install is missing something or got corrupted.

    What worked for me was:

    1. Close Power BI completely.

    2. Go to this path:C:\Users\[yourname]\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Power BI Desktop\Delete (or rename) the folders named AnalysisServicesWorkspaces and TempUser.

    3. Then reinstall Power BI Desktop from the official link here:
      Download latest version

      If you’re on a company laptop or VM, ICT might’ve installed it with restricted permissions that can also mess with Preview features like Copilot. In that case, best to get them to do a clean reinstall using the full installer instead of the Store version.

  • Thanks for your swift reply rajendraongole1 . I'll forward your solution proposal to my ICT guy responsible for the installations.

    Thanks again!
