Same issue here,  worked fine last week.  I didn't do anything other than use it and then Friday it won't launch as others have described.  The responses from Microsoft are ridiculous...send us logs, do our troubleshooting.  MS you are a $ billion company, surely you have the resources to do your own bug fixing.

The blog post about "change your locale"?  Completely ridiculous.  MS you've got to get it together...

sgmc1009 I am using W10 and latest pbi desktop version (sept 2016) and no issues opening it. Can you download sample pbix files from pbi website and try opening that instead of blank pbi report and see if it works that way. Below are the only minimum pbi desktop requirements.

    • Windows 7 / Windows Server 2008 R2, or later
    • .NET 4.5
    • Internet Explorer 9 or later
    • Memory (RAM): At least 1 GB available, 1.5 GB or more recommended.
    • Display: At least 1440x900 or 1600x900 (16:9) recommended. Lower resolutions such as 1024x768 or 1280x800 are not recommended, as certain controls (such as closing the startup screen) display beyond those resolutions.
    • CPU: 1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster x86- or x64-bit processor recommended.

        Hi sgmc1009,

I download the latest Power BI Desktop which is released in October 3rd  from this link and install it on my Windows 10 laptop, everything works well.

In your laptop, please check if any detailed error messages are logged in event viewer when Power BI Desktop crashes. In addition, is there are any possibility that you have Nahimic running in your laptop? If so, please stop Nahimic and start Power BI Desktop, for mode details, please review this similar thread.

        Thanks,
        Lydia Zhang
