Power BI Desktop and Live SQL connection question

Hello All,

Fairly new to Power BI and not sure if I am posting in the right place (Apologies in advance)

I created a report on Power BI desktop that imports data from a SQL server database and uploaded the pbix file to Power BI live, my question is will the SQL connection still be there on the live version and will it update automatically?

Thanks!

Hi there.

You said you imported the data into Power BI. So the data will not be live.

If you want it to be live when connecting to SQL Server you will select Connect Live. And then select your tables.

You will then have to install and configure the On-Premise Gateway

Thanks @GilbertQ!

Sorry, to clarify on Power BI Desktop I used Get Data > SQL Server, built the report and then used Get Data > Local File on Power BI Live.

So all I need to do now is configure the On-Premise Gateway?

I get this error when refreshing the dashboard on Live.

Hi @Juc

If you look at the error it is asking for credentials for all the data sources in the Gateway. So if you can have a look and ensure that they are correctly set.
