Power BI Desktop Version upgrades
I've been doing quite a bit of comparison research for the January 2025 version release and the July 2025 release. All my research tells me that this is a major upgrade. Can anyone confirm that for me please? I'm pretty sure it's not a minor release given the 6 month gap. This is for an internal customer who is currently using the January 25' version and wants to upgrade to the July version.
Thank you all for your responses. This has been very helpful. I also believe it's a major upgrade. Have a great Tuesday.

I'd recommend suggesting your users upgrade to August 2025 version. The August 2025 release significantly builds on the value delivered in January 2025, bringing advanced AI orchestration, enhanced modeling workflows, improved data security, and powerful, interaction-rich visuals. Highlights like Copilot’s wider integration, measure documentation automation, and richer modeling pipelines mark this update as a meaningful leap ahead.

Yes ✅ — the July 2025 Power BI Desktop release is a major upgrade compared to January 2025.
Jan 2025 → semantic model history, Snowflake connector, Direct Lake preview.
Jul 2025 → big leap: Copilot AI, deep Microsoft 365 integration, PBIRS + SQL 2025 support, Field Parameters GA, ORDERBY in visual calcs, broader Direct Lake, organizational themes.
