Power BI Desktop - Restrict / hide specific datasource types

Hello,

we don't want to allow our Power BI Desktop users to connect to every datasource that is offered in the "Get Data" dialogue.

For example, we only want to allow them the use the "Import" connectivity instead of Direct Query.

Also, we want to restrict completely the use of certain datasources, so that they are not even visible for the user or an error message appears as soon as it is chosen.

We know that this should be possible somehow by editing registry entries of Power BI, but I am not able to find the correct keys and therefore would ask you for your help.

I cannot find anything in the community or the web.

Thank you

Best wishes

Johann

Do you mean to modify this file?

Hello Lionel!

thanks for your response..

I guess editing a dll file which is from Microsoft is not possible, of course. Or is it intended and possible?

I was thinking there could be whether a configuration file where I can change what datasources are allowed to be seen,

or,

some registry settings (regedit) that I can edit to hide some datasources to be available for the user.

Best regards,

Johann
