Power BI Desktop Installation Issue

Hi Team,

I am getting issue during Power BI Desktop installation. Irrespective ending the task, restarting the machine etc etc, I still get following error in virtual machine.

Are you sure you want to cancel Microsoft Power BI Desktop (x64) installation?

Than it just greys out on clicking yes or no. And there is no response, or prompt.

Has anyone else faced this issue.

Thanks,

Pallavi

Try to navigate to the following directories and delete temporary files related to Power BI:

  • C:\Windows\Temp
  • %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Temp

Then restart your machine and try the installation again.

If you previously attempted to install Power BI, you should clean up remnants:

  • Go to Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features and uninstall any existing versions of Power BI Desktop.
  • Delete leftover files in:
    • C:\Program Files\Microsoft Power BI Desktop
    • %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\Power BI Desktop

this can help you to diagnose stuck installations :

Process Monitor - Sysinternals | Microsoft Learn

Manually Remove Leftover Power BI Desktop Files : Get Power BI Desktop - Power BI | Microsoft Learn
