Power BI Desktop – Installation Issue | Mashup Engine Error
- 4 months ago
Hi InsightSpark
This looks more like a Power BI Desktop startup/runtime issue than an ODBC issue.
Since the error appears when Power BI Desktop launches, I would focus less on ODBC and more on the local environment around the Mashup Engine.
A few things worth trying:
Completely uninstall Power BI Desktop.
Delete leftover local Power BI Desktop folders from the user profile.
Reinstall only one version first, preferably the standard download version, not both versions together.
Repair or reinstall Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime.
Repair or reinstall the required .NET Desktop Runtime (x64).
Check whether an older on-premises data gateway is installed on the same machine, and if so, update or remove it temporarily.
Temporarily disable antivirus / endpoint protection or run the installation with local admin rights, if your organization allows that.
Reboot the machine and test Power BI Desktop before installing additional drivers or custom connectors. At this stage, this does not look like a normal data source driver problem. It looks more like a local dependency, corrupted component, or machine-level conflict affecting the Mashup Engine during startup.
If none of the above helps, I would recommend opening a Microsoft support ticket, because this is likely an environment-level startup issue rather than a standard installation problem.
