Power BI Desktop Copilot

I have a premium per user license, PP3 and it will not let me activate in the options on the desktop.  Is there another service that I need?

  • Hi rbame -To activate Copilot for Power BI, having a Premium Per User (PPU) license is typically not sufficient on its own. You also need access to a workspace that is in a Premium capacity (P1 or above) or Fabric capacity (F64 or higher). This is essential for enabling Copilot, both in Power BI Desktop and in the Power BI service.

Premium Per User (PPU) licenses do support Power BI Copilot, but it is crucial that your workspace is assigned to Premium Per User capacity.

    • Ensure your PPU license is active and assigned correctly to your Power BI account. You can check this by visiting your Power BI Service (app.powerbi.com), navigating to the workspace settings, and verifying that the workspace is running under Premium Per User.

Copilot is often part of preview features. To ensure it's enabled:

    1. Go to File > Options and settings > Options.
    2. Under Global > Preview Features, ensure that any options related to AI (Artificial Intelligence), Copilot, or AI-enhanced insights are enabled.
    3. Restart Power BI Desktop after enabling these options.

Verify that Copilot is available in your region. Some features, including AI-powered tools like Copilot, might not yet be rolled out to all regions.

    Hi rbame ,

Based on the description, to use Copilot in Power BI Desktop, you need admin, member, or contributor access to at least a single workspace that is assigned to a paid Fabric capacity (F64 or higher) or Power BI Premium capacity (P1 or higher) that has Copilot enabled.
