Power Automate CSV output not updating when opened in Excel
- Anonymous8 months ago
Hi adapodaneevera,
This normally happens because the Excel file still contains some invalid values even though they are not visible. In Excel, values like N/A are treated as error values, not normal text, so Trim and Clean will not remove them. That is why Power BI still throws errors.
Another common reason is that mobile number or pincode columns come from Excel as numbers or scientific format, and Power BI keeps switching the type in the background even after you change it to Text.
Please try replacing errors with null first, then set the column type to Text, and only after that apply Clean and Trim. Also, if possible, set the column format to Text directly in Excel before loading it into Power BI.
This is a data formatting issue from Excel, not a Power BI issue.
Hope the above provided information help you resolve the issue, if you have any further concerns or queries, please feel free to reach out to us.

Hii adapodaneevera
This usually happens because Excel is opening a cached version of the CSV file, while SharePoint correctly shows the updated content. CSV files do not support refresh or version awareness in Excel, so Excel may reuse the previously opened copy. To fix this, close Excel completely and reopen the file directly from SharePoint (not from Recent files), or download it again with a new file name. A more reliable approach is to overwrite the file using “Update file” instead of “Create file” in Power Automate, or save each run with a timestamped filename to avoid caching issues.
Hi Rohit, Thank you ! but I'm trying to build new report every month, if I use Update file, it will update the details in existing file, and I might lose old data. And I tried it now, its reflects the same data for last month. If i create a new flow and then try the same things, then its giving the latest data.

Hi adapodaneevera,
Thanks for the update. You don’t have to use Update file if you want to keep old monthly reports. The flow is working fine. The issue is happening because Excel keeps an old copy of CSV files when the same name or path is used.
Since you are creating a new report every month, please save the file with a different name each time for example, add month or date in the file name. This will make sure Excel always opens the latest data and your old files stay safe.
If possible, you can also try saving the output as an Excel (.xlsx) file instead of CSV, as Excel handles those files better.
I hope this information is helpful.
