Hello - I'm looking for a work around for this issue, as Power BI only offers a linear trendline. Does anyone have a solution? DAX? R? Python? I have a line chart that I would like to show a polynomial trendline because of all the peaks and valleys - a linear trendline is pretty useless.
Surely there has to be a way to write some DAX for this? (Or R or Python?)

Yes, an R or Python visual could work. Note that you would lose interactivity.
An alternative would be Deneb, as @KerKol suggests here Re: Creating Polynomial Trend Lines in PowerBI Cha... - Microsoft Fabric Community
