Hi all,
A user today reached out after trying to personalize a stacked column chart by adding a dimension field to the Legend section:
While the 'personalize this visual' option works correctly after the user selects the field to add to the Legend, they reported that saving a personal bookmark with this change is not working correctly - the field added to the 'Legend' section does not remain in the bookmarked view.
Is this a system limitation or is there a workaround for this?

Hi @garynorcrossmmc,
Thank you for reaching out in Microsoft Community Forum.
Currently, Microsoft does not provide a published matrix or official list that details exactly which visuals support which types of ‘Personalize this visual’ features in bookmarks.
Below are alternate approaches you can try
1.Tables and Matrix visuals retain most personalization changes like hiding/reordering columns and sorting in bookmarks.
2.Charts (e.g., Stacked Column, Pie, Bar) do not retain structural changes (like adding fields to Legend, Axis, or Values) in personal bookmarks.
3.Formatting changes (e.g., colors, data labels) are generally preserved across visuals.
4.There's no official Microsoft matrix listing which visuals support which personalized bookmark features, but the Personalize visuals in a report - Power BI | Microsoft Learn offer general guidance.

Hi @Anonymous, thank you for the response. So as I'm understanding it, not all personalize this visual changes can be captured in every type of visual.
Before I mark this as solved, can you please provide me with a guide of which 'Personalize This VIsual' functions are available for which visuals?
Hi @garynorcrossmmc,
Thank you for reaching out in Microsoft Community Forum.
Please follow below steps for 'Personalize This VIsual' ;
1.Personalization like hiding/reordering columns, sorting, and formatting are usually retained.
2.Structural changes (e.g., adding/removing fields to Legend, Axis, or Values) aren't retained, but some formatting may be
3.Basic personalization like size and formatting changes are retained.
4.Filter selections and slicer visibility are retained.
5.Formatting changes are typically retained, but structural changes like adding/removing fields aren't.

Hi again @Anonymous, thanks for the response. If this exists, can you please provide a list, link or more information on which visuals allow personalized changes to be bookmarked and which don't? I'd like to update our user guides on this functionality, as our teams utilize this often.

hi @anilelmastasi thank you for your response! However I think my experience differs, as I've found that bookmarks where table visuals have been personalized will retain the changes made to the visual.
Here is a video showing that - you'll see that after I personalize the visual to exclude the 'Name' field, create a bookmark called 'Test', refresh the page and then click the 'Test' bookmark again, the visual has kept the 'personalize this visual' change:
So now my question becomes is this visual-specific? Are changes to personalized table visuals retained in bookmarks but not in other visuals, such as the Stacked Column Chart?
Hi @garynorcrossmmc,
Thank you for reaching out in Microsoft Community Forum.
Thank you @anilelmastasi for the helpful response.
1.Bookmarks can retain some "Personalize this visual" changes — particularly in table and matrix visuals (like hiding/reordering columns). These personalization settings are more consistently captured in personal bookmarks.
2.However, for visuals like Stacked Column Charts, personalization changes involving structure — such as adding fields to the Legend, Axis, or Values — are not retained in personal bookmarks. This behavior varies by visual type and by the type of personalization made.

Hello @garynorcrossmmc ,
Currently, Power BI does not allow bookmarks to retain changes made through Personalize This Visual, including adding fields to the Legend. The best approach is to either:
- Provide predefined bookmarks with different configurations,
- Use parameters or slicers to manage the field displayed in the Legend.
