Paginated Report not seeing relationships from Power BI Dataset

Hello,

I apprecaite this may be the wrong forum but I can't seem to find a forum specific to the Power BI Report Builder (Paginated Reports).

I have a dashboard created in power bi desktop which is published to the service. Within this i have a dataset set up as a star schema.

When I import the same dataset into Power BI Report Builder my tables show and my columns show correctly.

I then try to make a table with Project name from my fact Table (This could be in a dim table, but for now it's fine) and Health from my dim table, the data does not see the relationship and creates a query that shows every project name with every type of health.

In my Power BI desktop report the relationships work fine and will pick up which health a project has but in report builder there's no realisation of my relationships. What am i doing wrong?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, I'm at a bit of a loss here.

Thanks

Hi @Anonymous ,

There are a few possible reasons and solutions for this problem:

  • You may have multiple values selected in your date slicer, which can cause the SELECTEDVALUE function to return a blank value. This can prevent the filters from propagating through the relationships. To avoid this, you can use the MAX or MIN function instead of SELECTEDVALUE, which will return the maximum or minimum value in the filter context. For more information, see Relationship troubleshooting guidance - Power BI | Microsoft Learn
  • You may have row-level security enforced on your Power BI dataset, which can restrict the access to certain rows of data based on the user’s role. This can also affect the filter propagation and the query results. To solve this, you may need to enable a bi-directional relationship between your tables, which will allow the filters to flow both ways.
  • You may have an incorrect DAX query generated by Report Builder, which may not reflect the relationships or the filters correctly. To check this, you can open the Query Designer and inspect the DAX query that is used to retrieve the data from the Power BI dataset.
