Page level security

how to acheive page level security in power bi?

let say i have Sales Performance Report with Pages - Overview, Analysis and Detail where Overview page should be visible to only executives (executives should not see Analysis and Detail Page) , similarly Analysis page should be visible to only Sales Managers and Detail Page should be visible to only Operational users

  • Hi powerbiexpert22 ,

There is no direct option to have a page level security you can do a mix and match between page navigation with dynamic dax and rls.

    Check the blog post below:

    https://medium.com/microsoft-power-bi/control-page-level-access-for-users-in-power-bi-a20e9759da65

But be aware that depending on how you make the access this is not 100% secure.

In this case taking into consideration that Excecutives should only Overview and Sales manager should only see analysis page and the detail to the operational I would do 3 thin reports with the different pages and the use an app and audiences  this would allow you to have a complete control over who sees what and 100% assurance that they would only access that specific report.

  • Hi,

As far as I know, Power BI doenst have page level secueirity,

i have runinto a smililar requirement before  and ended up creating seprate reports for different user group.

I can help you  in this regard, i have personnaly implemented RLS in more than 100 BI user in my Organization.

In my organizar we have same issue so i make copy of main PBIX file and implement RLS.

In my organizarion hierarchy is as below:

    Sr. GM Sales

    RSM North and South

    7 ZSM

    25 BSM

    75 ASO

all are using Power BI Reports and Dashboards.

I have developed 3 report groups.

    1. Sr. GM Sales, RSMs and Head Office

    Planning Staff

    2. ZSMs and BSMs

    3. ASO

Same report for ZSMs but they can only view their relevent zone data and analysis, same for ASOs, with the help of RLS.

SO My suggestion please make copy of main report and implement RLS.

    Hi powerbiexpert22

We are currently using a page level security in all our reports. IT is not straightforward but there is a way.

We created a homepage as our landing page showing the pages of our report and we had a list in excel of to whom we want to give access to certain pages and we apply the RLS on it.

    Hope this helps.
