PBI crashes with CefSharp.Core.dll error

Hi everyone,

I'm not new to PBI but needed to install the application on my private device for further usage. I took the latest version from the PBI website and installed it. But when I try to open it it comes up with:

"Could not load file or assembly 'CefSharp.Core.dll' or one of its dependencies. The specific module could not be found"

Another system error (msmsdrv.exe) pop up appears as well with the message:

"The program could not be started because api-ms-win-crt-studio-l1-1-0.dll is missing on your computer ...."

I did a reinstall for several times but without any succes.

I also tried to find and locate the missing dll-files but without any succes either.

Just for you information;

- I'm using Windows 8

- Installed that with Bootcamp on a MacBook

- 64-bit version of PBI

Any help would be very much appreciated.

After several attempts I finally found a solution. 

I upgraded Win8 to Win8.1 and did all 139 updates which had to be done on top of it. After rebooting the system Power BI Desktop was able to load and I didn't get any message anymore concerning CefSharp.Core.dll.

Thus final conclusion:

- Use Win8.1 and not Win8

- Be sure all Win8.1 updates have been installed

Have you downloaded from it form here

Yes I did download that version but it's not working with me.

In a meanwhile the second pop-up disappeared, it seems that system error has been solved:

Nevertheless the 'CefSharp.Core.dll' is still there.
