PBI checks source file on every step

Hi,

I would really like to know how PBI works with imported files. All I know is that the data (or part of the data) is put in an internal column-oriented dataset. I'm wondering why Power BI has to check the source file every time, no matter what I am doing, i.e. groupby, new column, filter, saving changes in editor. I have loaded my data into pbi-dataset, why would I need to check the source file every single time?

At the moment I'm working with some "large" files (300MB+) and most of the time I just wait for Power BI to check the source files. I can't imagine you guys working in the same way, I must do something wrong. Please help^^

@eniX,

To have Query Editor apply the changes to the data model into Power BI Desktop, you need to select Close & Apply from Query Editor's File menu. Data View helps you inspect, explore, and understand data in your Power BI Desktop model. It's different from how you view tables, columns, and data in Query Editor. With Data View, you’re looking at your data after it has been loaded into the model.
