Only take data from excel file within area formatted as table

Hi all,

I am new to Power BI and I want to analyze data from an excel file. However, I only want to take those data from the excel file which are in an area formatted as a table. The reason is that the file has headings and sub-headings in its first two rows before the data starts. If power BI takes the whole file, it only recognizes one of them as the heading, the socond will be recognized as data. Thus, I have text in the area in which there should be only numbers and Power BI automatically sets the format to text and makes it impossible to re-format to numbers. In the end, the visualizations will only count the rows, not calculate the sum of the values.

Thank you in advance!

Hi @Anonymous ,

1. You need to save the file first and then the table can be read and recognized by PowerBI when it connects.

2. Power BI is a reporting platform, and it is not good at writing back data.

Problem ihas been solved, principally Power BI can take data only from tables which are formatted as such. The problems are

1. Power BI seems to take some time to recognize new tables created in a file

2. Power BI does - in my case - not update data saved on SharePoint
