Only Allows Date Hierarchy

After installing the March update and turning on the new On-Option interaction it will only allow for the date hierarchy when selecting a date field and will not allow me to only select the date. When I have this feature turned off I can select a date, it will first populate the hierachy, and then I can select the date only and not the hierarchy. Bug or just needs another method to do this because I cannot figure out how to not use the hierarchy. Thanks!

I completely missed this as well. For some reason I did not think to right click to get to field options.
