Onedrive Connection to Power BI error: The downloaded data is HTML, which isn't the expected
- 1 year ago
This is not helpful - but I've found the solution. Use Google sheets instead which has a built in connector. Just unfortunate. The other posts on this topic are not helpful either
Hi PowerBICouple - Go to the OneDrive web interface.
Right-click the file → Select Embed or Copy Link.
Modify the link to include /download if not already present.
Eg: https://onedrive.live.com/download?resid=<fileID>
Try accessing the direct download link in a browser. If successful, replace the Web.Contents link in Power BI.

Hi PowerBICouple ,
Base on the error message, it seems that the OneDrive file may change the store location or be removed in the original location. Could you please check and try the following things?
1. Ensure that the OneDrive still exist there
2. Make sure it is still shared correctly with the necessary access rights
3. If the above ones are OK, please try to re-generate the link
4. Clear the permission of data source and re-connect it with the correct authentication.
Edit Or Remove Permission From Existing Data Source Connection From Power BI
5. Refer the following links to connect to OneDrive file
Use OneDrive for work or school links in Power BI Desktop - Power BI | Microsoft Learn
Connect To OneDrive Excel File From Power BI Desktop
