Numerical values not recognised as calculable

Hi guys,

 

I am new to Power BI so please speak to me as if you're explaining to a grandma! 

 

I have a set of data with heading called Total revenue ($m). It is recognised as numerical value, as when I try and filter it says "smallest to largest". It also says "number" at the top of excel [see pic 1].

 

However, when I add this to Power BI, it isn't recognising it as calculable (no sigma). I tried googling for answers but I am not an expert on this, so not really understanding the whole explicit values and creating my own formulas. The dataset is from a simple excel file.

 

All I want to do is be able to show the revenue using a card (and not show count) [see pic 2]. Possibily, add the revenues together if more than one company is selected.

 

What I have tried so far:

  • change number to currency
  • make sure all "null" is changed to 0
  • make sure no unique values
  • make sure no empty cells
  • make sure it is recognised as numericals

It would be great if someone could help me with this, without using anythng too complex.

    It's sorted now. I had three tabs in my power query. For some reason, when I load them all at once, it doesnt seem to recognise my revenue as numbers. But if i loaded it one by one, it worked fine! Strange but at least it is sorted now.

    m3shoess , Can you share the column properties in power BI? If you click on column , it should show column tools.

     

    Also first if all make sure it is number data type in power query. And it should not error.

     

    Also make sure you on latest version of power bi.

    When I click on a column, I don't get the column tools option.  This is from Power BI desktop 2019, and even when I go into "edit query" I dont have column tools option. 

     

    There is no error in the table and eveything under "revenue" is number data. 

     

    I am using work Power BI, so I don't have the option to update as freely but I could always ask IT.
