Not able to replace the existing dataset with live connection

Hello All,

 

We have multiple power BI reports, and we are using azure SSAS cube as source. Power bi reports are connected via live connection. Here is the screenshot of the lineage of the same –

 

Now we are in the process of migrating the SSAS cube to power bi semantic model. When we are trying to repoint the existing report with the power bi semantic model as source, we are not able to replace the existing dataset/reports. Getting the below error –

 

We have tried with new name of the report/dataset then it’s working fine, and publishing is getting successful.

 

Please suggest if we can manage the existing reports intact and migrate to use the new semantic model in power bi.

    Hello DipanjanGanguly,

     

    How about using deployment pipeline in PBI? I thought that if you create a workspace name as development and deploy to production same name as semantic model etc. Have you tried deployment pipeline?

    Short of patching the .bim file (or maybe TMDL?) there isn't really much you can do.  Switching live data sources is not natively supported in the UI.
