Not able to open PowerBI Desktop Files and Getting File Sensitivity error

Hello, 

I'm the owner of the report and PBI file size is 24 MB. I only published the file.

I published the report yesterday and downloaded it today. I'm getting below error and unable to open the file:

I"m using Premium Per User license.

Any thoughts to resolve the issue

Hi. I have the same issue. I can't even open my old reports which I could before. Changing the sensivity label online also doesn't help. I hope this is a temporary thing.

Looks like the problem is fixed. I can open reports now.

Solutions proposed by @rohit1991  and @burakkaragoz  didn't solve the issue.
But now I'm to able to open the file. Is the issue fixed by Microsoft?

That error usually means Power BI can’t verify the file’s sensitivity label, this sometimes happens if there’s a temporary issue with your organization’s Information Protection service, or if you’re not currently signed in with the right account.

A few things to try:

 

  • Make sure you’re signed in to Power BI Desktop with the same account that owns the file and has permission to view sensitivity labels.

  • If possible, check with your IT/security team to see if there are any ongoing issues with Microsoft Information Protection or label policies.

  • Sometimes just waiting a bit and trying again later resolves it, especially if it’s a backend service hiccup.

If it keeps happening, you could also try opening the file on a different machine or network, just to rule out any local issues.

This is a sensitivity label verification error. Your report got tagged with some Microsoft Information Protection settings when you published it, and now Power BI can't verify those labels.

Honestly, these sensitivity label issues can be tricky to fix. Here's what I'd try, but no guarantees:

Start simple:

  • Sign out of Power BI Desktop completely and sign back in
  • Try downloading the .pbix file again from the service

If that doesn't help:

  • Check if your organization made any recent changes to security policies
  • Ask your IT admin - they might need to refresh label policies or there could be a service issue

Other things people have tried:

  • Opening the report in the service first, then downloading
  • Waiting a few hours (sometimes it's just a temporary Microsoft service problem)

Reality check: Sensitivity label errors can be caused by a bunch of different things - policy changes, service hiccups, or actual file issues. There's no single "this always works" solution unfortunately.

Your admin will probably have better insight into what's happening with your organization's information protection setup.

Sorry I can't give you a definitive fix - these Microsoft security features can be pretty unpredictable sometimes.
