Not able to Connect with Oracle database

Hi All,

I have installed Power BI desktop in my window7  32 bit system. Also installed oracle client with proper setting of TNSNAMES.ora file.

But when i connect with oracle database from PowerBI desktop : get data > oracle database;

it is showing me the error:

Details: "Oracle: ORA-12514: TNS:listener does not currently know of service requested in connect descriptor<br>".

I have checked all entry in tnsnames file which is fine.I am able to connect oracle database via sql*plus and toad but not able to connect via PowerBI Desktop.I am new in powerbi tool. Please tell me is anything missing  or wrong?

Thanks,

Narender

Hi

I am able to connect to Oracle databases.

On the machine with PowerBI desktop I have defined my service name in Oracle Net Manager (client) as shown below

Oracle.png

Then in PowerBI I am able to successfully connect to Oracle using the service name and database credentials.

OracleCredentials.png

Hope that helps.

I have the same error message, although with a slightly different configuration:

I have a Windows 7 64bit pc with an Oracle client 32 bit.

As PowerBi needs a 64bit client, I installed a 64bit version 12.1.0 next to my 32bit version. I can connect to my database using SqlPlus (both 32 and 64bit) and a TNSPING command succeeds as well.

But with PowerBi I still get the ORA-12514 error: TNS: the listener process doesn't know the requested service.

Any ideas ? Thanks in advance

Can you TNSPING to your database in a command prompt? Also is the Oracle client on the PATH? Power BI Desktop would need the path to be able to find the data provider. Toad is smart enough to go looking for the Oracle Client via the Registry and of course the SQL*Plus is running from the same directory as the client.

I have the same issue 😞
