Newbie Question

I have an Excel table listing customers. Among the columns are city, state, and country.

(1) When I select state, a map comes up with a green dot in each state. I'm not seeing how to get the number of customers by state.

(2) When I select city a map comes up with dots in cities in several countries (I expected this).

(3) But when I select city and state I still get cities in several countries, even thou the country column is all "United States" (I did not expect this).

(4) When I select city, state and country I get only a blank map (showing nothing).

I can type the question "How many customers in Ohio" and the correct number displays.

What I really am trying to do is to have a map showing counts (or bubbles) by state or city within the country in the country column.

I know I'm probably doing something wrong, but a couple of hours of troubleshooting has gotten me nowhere.

Thanks.

    In Power BI Desktop

    1. Go to the Data View
    2. Click on the City Column
    3. Go to the Modelling Menu
    4. Select Data Category = City
    5. Repeat for the other geographical columns

When you set up your Map, put a values field from your table in the Values section of the visualisation.  If you put population in the values section, you will get a bubble size based on population size etc.

Thanks Matt, I didn't know about the Modelling menu. I appreciate it.
