Newbie: DirectQuery on SSAS and DirectQuery on PowerBI
- Anonymous10 years ago
Anonymous I am not aware of any way to accomplish this. Any mucking around with the pbix file results in a corrupted file... There is a connection file in Live Query that is not there for a PBIX file that was imported into, but all my test cases have failed when trying to switch over.
Hi Anonymous,
No. DirectQuery connection is different from the SSAS DirectQuery mode.
In POWER BI, Direct Query connection just means POWER BI directly query against the data source. In this scenario, it's SSAS database. The DirectQuery mode in SSAS means it's directly retrieving raw data from the underlying relational database to generate DSV for building data model.
What's the version of POWER BI DESTTOP you are using? DirectQuery connection should not be supported for SSAS data source. Please see:

HI there
My Power Bi Desktop is April release. I just realised that there are differences between Live Connection and Direct Query.
I think my real question is how to change from Live Connection to Import but someone said its impossible :( Is this correct?
I dont want to re-do my dashboard but it seems to be the only way to go :(
