New Text Slicer Not Working

Hi Experts!

I am trying out the new Text Slicer, but it doesn't seem to work. I can create the visual on a report, but when I try to add data, no matter what method I use (click and drag, click the +Add Data button, the quick navigation) I can't add any data to it. No error messages are returned. The only message I get is when trying to add a measure which it says it can't. But when I try to add an actual field from a table, nothing.

What is up?

OK, I figured it out. It only accepts Text fields, not numeric. That's fine I guess because I can easily add a column to my table that turns my numeric field to a text using FORMAT.

Now, I am hitting another obstacle. How what is the DAX equivalent of SELECTEDVALUE for a Text slicer? Or is there? I will post a follow up for this question.
