New Measure calculation

Hi,

I am creating a product report using a matrix and am trying to create a measure based off of a measure.  I have a separate field/table for revenue and a separate field/table for returns for 2017 and 2018 (I will add 2018 revenue and returns each month going forward).  I created a new measure that takes the month to date units sold (2017 MTD Units Sold) minus the month to date units returned (2017 MTD Units Returned) to get net sales (2017 MTD Sales), and the same for 2018.  I now need to create a new measure that gets me the percent change between the two months of January for 2017 and 2018.  I tried to create the new measure but can't find the last measure (2017 MTD Sales) that I created when typing the formula.  Is it possible to create a new measure based off of a new measure?  Thanks in advance for your help.
