MySQL connector not working

Hi All,

My Power BI Desktop is 64-bit , I installed the MySQL connector -net-9.5.msi. After installed this connector,I restart the power bi desktop and my computer . When i connect again , there are showing message "This connector requires one or more additional components to be installed before it can be used".
After that , I reinstalled the connector-net-9.5 msi, and installed again the MySQL connector -odbc-9.5.msi64.I got the same message. How can i fix this and pls give me suggestion.

Appreciate your advice!

  • Check the version of MySQL server and connector, if it's different try to install same versions

  • Hi Hsu_MM

Here are some steps you can try to fix it:

    • Make sure you’re using 64-bit versions of Power BI, MySQL Connector/NET, and MySQL ODBC. Mismatched architectures (like 64-bit Power BI but 32-bit connector) can cause these errors.
    • Install the Microsoft .NET Framework 4.7.2 or higher if it’s not already installed, as MySQL Connector/NET requires it.
    • When installing the MySQL Connectors, try running the installer as an Administrator (right-click > Run as administrator).
    • After installation, it’s important to restart your computer to refresh system variables and let Power BI pick up the new components.
    • Sometimes, the newer versions of MySQL Connector/NET may cause compatibility issues. If that’s the case, try installing an older stable version like 8.0.28 instead.
    • Also, consider updating Power BI Desktop to the latest version, as newer releases often improve connector support.

Once you’ve done these steps, open Power BI and try reconnecting to your MySQL database. This usually resolves the "additional components" error.

If you still face issues, please share screenshots of the error and your setup details (Power BI version, connector versions, OS) so we can help further.

  • Install 64-bit MySQL Connector/NET, ensure Visual C++ Redistributable is installed, then restart Power BI and your PC.
