MySQL: Can't get hostname for your address

Trying to connect to a My SQL database, I have the server and database name, along with a password.

I have it set up on a laptop but am trying to set up the connection on a mac running parrallels desktop and it is coming up with this error.

We encountered an error while trying to connect

Is anyone able to help?

So turns out the issue was actually the fact I was running Power Bi in Parallels on a MAC. Running power BI through an instance on AWS it let me straight in... Not sure why Parallels is stopping that connection?

@RonniemaccageeAre you able to connect to this MySQL from outside of power BI? Please try that to see if there are no fundamental issues.You should be able to 'ping' the machine where the database resides and there should be no firewall issues.

Also, if you can post an image of the connection parameters as you are trying (obscuring any identifying or confidential info), it may be helpful.

How would i check the connection outside of power BI?

@RonniemaccageeDo you have something like MySQL workbench or other client? Then you can try connecting with that first.

So I just double-checked I have the correct connector but no luck 😞

I also tried following your steps in your second link but still no luck.
