Multiple DirectQuery for PBI datasets as AS: premium only?

Hello,

If I try to add an existing dataset using "DirectQuery for PBI datasets as AS":

  • It works on a dataset in a premium workspace
  • It fails on a dataset in a pro workspace

==> I cannot find anything about that feature & licensing between pro & premium. Is it premium only? Or is it a bug?

==> If you try the same steps as below, do you have the same error (on a pro workspace) ?

There is a restriction for dataflow, but I cannot find it regarding datasets (https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/pricing/ )

Exemple with a new report trying to load data from a pro workspace:

Premium only?Premium only?

Thank you

Hi @rflanagan @Ncio

Update:

This was a known issue which was fixed in the latest version 2.104.941.0 64-bit (April 2022).

====================================================

Are you using the April version of Power BI Desktop? This is probably caused by an issue. You can refer to this issue link: https://community.powerbi.com/t5/Issues/Can-t-connect-to-multiple-Power-BI-datasets/idi-p/2475115

Engineers have reported this issue internally (IcM Number: 304203762). I will update the feedback here if there is any news.

I'm having the same issue with the second dataset or adding a dataset to an existing data model.  This worked for us 2 weeks ago and we do not have premium.  I'm guessing its a bug?

Hi @Ncio

This is not premium only. It also supports datasets in Pro workspaces.

I couldn't reproduce the same error with datasets in a new workspace which is in shared capacity. Do you still have this error currently? If you do, can you test whether this only occurs on a specific dataset in a specific workspace? If you can connect to other datasets in the same workspace, it may be that this dataset has hit some limitations listed in Considerations and limitations section in this document. In many scenarios, this feature is not supported.
