Modelling Demographics Across Channels

Hi  Everyone,

I'm very new to Power BI and am a very basic user tasked with creating a dashboard that compares percentages of men and women appearing on different news platforms displayed over time.

The data is very simple. Every TV Platform has it's own table, as below.

"Channel 1"

MonthChannelMale %Female %
Jul-19Channel 147%53%
Aug-19Channel 1

"Channel 2"

MonthChannelMale %Female %
Jul-19Channel 251%49%
Aug-19Channel 2

The relationship is shown in a third table "Categories"

DepartmentChannel
NewsChannel 1
NewsChannel 2

I hope to create a dashboard where I can see the departmental average, and then drill down to see each channel's total.

I need to keep the month field so that I can also show the trend over time.

Creating these individually isn't a problem but when I try to add them together the table shows the Gender % fields as separate.

In Fields I am selecting

"Categories"

Y - Channel

"Channel 1"

Female %

Male %

"Channel 2"

Female %

Male %

The resulting table looks like this;

ChannelMale %Female %Male %Female %
Channel 147%53%
Channel 2  51%49%

I would love to be able to report on the average and drill down to each channel. Any help or guidance any of you can give me would be so appreciated. I'm open to rearranging the data in any way I can to ensure ongoing clarity.

Many thanks!

    Hi,

Although you have explained the requirement in details, still I have questions around it.

I have created a sample data model based on the description, which you may find it here

I have questions around the third table as what are the views/reports you would like to create with it?

I would recommend to add more sample data in the file I have shared and use it to explain the requirement.

    Rgds,

    Vivek
