Missing several database connectors

    Hi Andreas6 ,

    Thanks for the update. Based on your description and the fact that the MariaDB connector is available on your other (presumably internet enabled) machine, it’s very likely that restricted outbound connections are preventing Power BI Desktop from retrieving and loading certain certified connectors.

     

    While the standalone MSI installer includes the core application and many data connectors, some certified connectors  like MariaDB  rely on runtime access to Microsoft cloud based connector registry to be fully visible and functional.

     

    Please try the following

    1. Temporarily allow outbound internet access on the machine.

    2. Launch Power BI Desktop and check under Get Data to see if the MariaDB connector becomes available.

Hi Andreas6 ,

Thank you for reaching out to the Fabric Community. In addition to freginier , response, I have checked my own system and can confirm that the MariaDB connector is available in Power BI Desktop.

 

FYI:

This indicates that the issue is specific to your environment. It seems that your Power BI installation might be incomplete or corrupted, preventing some connectors from loading properly.

 

Although Power BI Desktop is supported on Windows Server 2016, this operating system is relatively outdated. Newer Power BI versions may rely on specific Windows updates or components that are not present or fully supported on older server OS versions.

 

You've confirmed that Visual C++ 2015-2022 Redistributables are installed for x64 (version 14.42.34433) & x86 (version 14.42.34438), .NET Framework 4.8 is installed. These are good steps, but we will verify and update these dependencies as needed.

 

Please reinstall Power BI Desktop using the official standalone installer from https://powerbi.microsoft.com/desktop, not the Microsoft Store version.

Thanks for the hints. I tried to reinstall the standalone version of Power BI several times, but without success. There is also no warning or error message in Power BI during installation. Is there any log where errors are traced? I didn't find anything related to MariaDB in the standard logs.

 

I have the same problem on Windows Server 2019 Standard, if this OS is supported as well.

      Hello team, 
      I am facing the same issue. 
      I would like to temporarily allow outbound internet access but my CISO is asking to limit to a white list of domain. Any idea regarding the white list ? 
      Is *.microsoft.com enought ?

        Thank you for bringing this up, it's a common issue in secure environments, and it's important to consider domain specific whitelisting.  Power BI Desktop needs runtime access to Microsoft’s cloud based connector registry to display certain certified connectors like MariaDB, Denodo, and Exasol.
