    CornelisV  Create a calculated column in "Required Table" like below and use this in Slicer:

    NewSample = LEFT(RequiredTable[SampleID],1)

That is a different approach, I have tried this and no result, unfortunately:

 

There is a difference between your screenshot: A Blank is displayed in the Slicer visualization.  

Any explanation what is making things differently?

I think this is the best solution, you need the next Model Virew to enable:

Many to one, Cross filter both
