Hi
Does anyone know what settings I need to change to get the Milestones appear with the Bar chart in the Microsoft Gantt 3.0.12.0 visual?
Milestones are in separate rows. For example:
Thank you in advance.

Hi,
Just a quick update on this. I managed to solve this issue by following the guide provided here Power BI Gantt Chart - Data Prep Guide & Dependency Lines Starter – Freedom Solutions
No need to use their modified Gantt visual unless you want the basic dependency line. In their How to guide there is a well written guide on how to resolve the milestone issue for the Microsoft Gantt Visual.
Hope this helps someone out there who've been struggling with the milestone issue on Microsoft Gantt Visual.
Hi,
For some odd reason I can't add the link that solved this issue for me. It keeps getting marked as spam - even though I am the one replying to my own thread. I marked it as 'Accepted Solution' twice and it was flagged a spam - not sure why.
I tried the updated Microsoft Gantt Visual and had the same issue.
If anyone out there is struggling with this - it is all about data prep and I recommend searching for Freedom Solutions UK site as I have no idea why I cannot link their site here. It comes up as a PMO Power BI solution starter site.
I didn't need to use their free gantt visual as their 'How-To Guide' helped to use Microsoft Gantt Visual as is to solve this issue of milestones causing task bars to "disappear".
Best regards,
SJ
Hi @SJ_PPM_BI ,
Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Community Forum.
In the Microsoft Gantt custom visual, when a row contains a value in Milestones, that row is rendered as a milestone instead of a bar. As a result, the task bar “disappears” if the milestone is placed on the same row as the task.
Please try below custom visuals.
1. Gantt Chart by MAQ Software , It supports up to 5 milestones per task, with dedicated milestone date fields and formatting, so the task bar and milestone markers appear on the same row.
2. Deneb (Vega‑Lite) It is template a layered chart to draw a bar for [StartDate–EndDate] and overlay milestone marks at [MilestoneDate] on the same row.
Please refer below links.

I hope this information helps. Please do let us know if you have any further queries.

Dinesh
Hi,
Thank you for your response.
I am unsure of this comment "when a row contains a value in Milestones, that row is rendered as a milestone instead of a bar". Are you saying that if a row that has a duration greater than zero and is also tagged as a milestone (which it shouldn't), is treated as a milestone instead?
Milestones in a standard MS Project Schedule is a separate row as per my example above and is always zero day duration - also tagged as a Milestone.
Best regards,
SJ
Hi @SJ_PPM_BI ,
Yes, Gantt custom visual, if you feed a milestone value into the Milestones field for that same row. Even with Duration > 0, the presence of a milestone value on the row causes the visual to render the milestone marker and not the bar, which is why users describe the bar as “disappearing.”.
I hope this information helps. Please do let us know if you have any further queries.

Dinesh
Hi Dinesh,
Thank you for your response. If you see my original message, I stated that Milestones are not in the same row. They are in separate rows.
So that scenario you provided is not applicable to how I have the task data that has a duration in separate row and another task that is zero duration, and tagged as Milestone as per standard MS Project scheduling in another row.
It sounds like this Microsoft visual has a bug.
Best regards,
SJ
Hi @SJ_PPM_BI ,
Thank you for the update. It appears this issue might require deeper investigation from the Microsoft Fabric support team. I recommend opening a Microsoft support ticket so they can trace the issue. To raise a support ticket for Fabric and Power BI, kindly follow the steps outlined in the following guide:
How to create a Fabric and Power BI Support ticket - Power BI | Microsoft Learn
Regards,
Dinesh
Hi Dinesh,
Thank you for your response.
I looked at the process provided and the support ticket can be raised only by:
Microsoft Entra role administrator
Environment administrator (or system administrator role in Dataverse)
Company administrator
Billing administrator
Service administrator
CRM service administrator
CRM organization administrator
Security administrator
Partner delegated administrator
SharePoint administrator
Teams administrator
Exchange administrator
Fabric administrator
Compliance administrator
Helpdesk administrator
Power BI Pro users can create support tickets for Power BI
Fabric users can create support tickets for Fabric products
At the moment, I don't have a Power BI Pro license and currently reviewing Power BI desktop product again as a standard BI solution to use with Project Portfolio reporting solution.
Sounds like a bit of a nuisance process for a Microsoft visual prodcut that doesn't do what it says on the tin.
I cannot be the only one having this issue with a basic Gantt chart feature.
Best regards,
SJ
Hi @SJ_PPM_BI ,
Some features are not supported in Gantt chart . One of the user was submitted feature request in Ideas forum. Please refer below link. Please upvote the feedback request in below link.

Hi Dinesh,
Thank you for your response.
If I re-look at your initial response, it pretty much states if Milestones are in a separate row then it will work. So it is a supported feature going by your initial response.
It clearly is a bug rather than a feature request. If it wasn't a feature, a separate Milestone won't be part of the visual properties/settings.

SJ
