Measure Killer not working as expected. What I'm doing wrong?

Hi everyone,

I’ve run into something interesting while using Measure Killer and wanted to get your thoughts.

I have a measure that is clearly being used in a report (it’s placed directly in a card visual), but Measure Killer is flagging it as “unused”.

Here’s the measure:

```
Aderente (Mês) - Tratos =
VAR _aderente =
    ADDCOLUMNS(
        SUMMARIZE(
            'aux_indicadores_tratos',
            'aux_indicadores_tratos'[indicador_descricao]
        ),
        "_aderente", CALCULATE([Delta (Mês) - Tratos])
    )
RETURN
    COUNTROWS(
        FILTER(
            _aderente,
            [_aderente] >= 0 &&
            NOT ISBLANK([_aderente])
        )
    )
```

And the dependent measure:

```
Delta (Mês) - Tratos =
CALCULATE(
    [Aux - Delta Tratos],
    'CG_Tempo'[Tempos] = "Real (Mês)"
)
```

Important detail: I’m using a Calculation Group (CG_Tempo) to control time intelligence.

From what I understand, the issue might be related to:

  • Use of calculation groups
  • Measures being evaluated inside virtual tables (SUMMARIZE + ADDCOLUMNS)
  • Context manipulation with CALCULATE

    My assumption is that Measure Killer is not able to track usage in this kind of scenario, especially when the measure is evaluated indirectly inside a virtual table or through a calculation group filter.

    Has anyone experienced something similar?

    Is this a known limitation of Measure Killer (or dependency analyzers in general), or could there be something in my model that is causing this false positive?

    Appreciate any insights!

    I'm sharing pics of the problem to contribute in the analysis.imagem (1).pngimagem.png

Measure Killer detects all those things, I suspect something else is going on.

Please make sure you selected the correct semantic model and report file (MK needs both)

What could also be the cause is that after adding the visual you did not save the Power BI file and run Measure Killer again.

This is completely wrong, please don't use mediocre AI tools for this kind of stuff.

where are you getting this answer from?

That's crazy!

I have two versions of the same report (.pbix files). The only differences between them are some columns I removed using Measure Killer and a few measures that I optimized.

Both versions use the measures I mentioned earlier, in the same card on the same page. However, they show different results in Measure Killer.

In the first version, the tool correctly identifies the measures as being used, as expected. In the other version (the one I shared in the post), it shows those measures as unused, as you can see in the images below.

Which version of Measure Killer do you have installed?

Is this the new card visual?

if you can share the file that would be amazing?!

I'm using Measure Killer 2.3.1 and yes, it is the new card visual.

For sure, I'll send you an e-mail with the files and more information, can I send to gregor@brunner.bi?

oh okay, the version you are using is almost 2 years old. I am still surprised it would be wrong but please upgrade to v2.9.4 and see if that fixes the issue.

yeah you can send it there
