Measure Formula Bar - Where art thou?

This is yet a another post requesting a fix for the disappearing DAX measure formula bar.  Version: 2.145.1602.0 64-bit (July 2025).  This is one of the oldest bugs out there.  I will buy a product manager a beer at the next conference if you fix this problem once and for all.

Cheers!

Thanks for response.  These are all temp solutions I am aware of. I would like MS to fix permanently.

Thankyou, Royel and Shahid12523 for your response.

    Hi timahenning2,

Thank you for contacting the Microsoft Fabric Community Forum and apologies for the inconvenience caused.

The best way forward is to open a Support Ticket with Microsoft. This will log your case and allow engineering to collect diagnostic data from your environment. That information helps prioritize a permanent fix in future Power BI Desktop updates. You can raise a ticket here: Microsoft Fabric Support and Status | Microsoft Fabric

If you have any other questions, please feel free to contact the Microsoft Fabric community.

    Thank you.

Hi timahenning2 i have also noticed this when a power bi desktop is open for a long time.

Here are few ways to get it back:

    • Switch to the "Table View" or "Model view" and then Open existing measure.
    • Create a new measure and see if measure formula bar is showing or not.
    • Close your power bi file and re-open again.
    • Final solution: Restart your laptop and open power bi file.

If you follow this, i am sure dax formula bar will come back as normal.

The disappearing DAX measure formula bar in Power BI (still in July 2025 build 2.145.1602.0) is a long-standing issue.

    Why it happens:

Often when connected to live/published datasets (expected behavior in some cases).

    Sometimes just a UI glitch.

    Workarounds:

Create a dummy measure → forces formula bar to reappear.

Save, close, reopen PBIX → temporary fix.

Use DAX Query View with INFO.MEASURES() → view/edit measure definitions without formula bar.

👉 No permanent fix yet—report to Microsoft for your version.

      Hi Shahed,

Thank you for the response.  I have experienced this problem working on a classic combined semantic and report model file and PBIP - no live/published datasets.
