Measure Conditional formatting issue after the October 2024 PBI desktop update

Hey All,

Today I managed to update my power bi desktop to the latest October 2024 update, I already had a lot of reports with matrix visuals that contained measures with conditional formatting (icons, data bars,...), all working without any issues.

As soon as I downloaded the update, all the visuals that had measures with conditional formatting set against them are showing the following error message "Error fetching data for the visual see details", then the details say "An unexpected exception occurred.". When I looked at the measure itself to inspect the conditional formatting in the visualizations pane, I noticed that the option is not displayed?! after I applied some filters, the conditional formatting capabilities appear again.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Hi @omargazzar - This issue could be due to a bug in the latest October 2024 update of Power BI Desktop, especially since it only started happening after you updated the software.

If the issue is significantly disrupting your work and cannot be resolved, you might consider temporarily reverting to the previous version of Power BI Desktop (e.g., September 2024) if you still have the installer. Power BI Desktop retains compatibility with reports from earlier versions, so your reports should open as expected.

If this seems like a bug, you can report it to Microsoft through the Power BI Desktop application by going to Help > Send a Frown. Attach screenshots and provide a detailed description of the issue. This will help Microsoft prioritize the fix.

If you publish the report to Power BI Service, see if the conditional formatting works there. Sometimes the service behaves differently than the desktop version, and this could be a temporary workaround until the desktop bug is fixed.

Hope this helps.
