Matrix with multiple columns and alternating row colours

Hi all,

I have a sample data model as follows:

I need to use a matrix to display the project information, grouped by year.  I also want to have alternating row colours, but for some reason I cannot find an option to extend the row colour across all columns (as follows).

I know I can achieve this with a table, but that doesn't give me the option to group by year.

Hi @bhalicki
No matter what you put inside the matrix this is what we have about alternating rows...

i updated the pbix...if it is still not there, I am afraid that you are trying to achieve something that is not possible, at least with the core visuals.
You can suggest it as an idea by the link:

Hi @bhalicki ,

Due to the design of Power BI, when not using the ladder layout, the row color cannot be extended to the parent category, but you can select different themes in the "style presets" drop-down box to change the matrix.

You can also submit an idea for it at Home (microsoft.com) and wait for users with the same needs as you to vote for you to help make it happen as soon as possible.

Best Regards,

Clara Gong

Hi @bhalicki

Switch on the format option of blended rows on row headers:

Thanks @Ritaf1983 , unfortunately that didn't give me the result I was looking for.  I need both the parent and child to appear on the same line (as if it were a table), but the alternating colour to extend across the entire row.
